censorship and publications and high school journalism

Everything is becoming more and more censored to the point many a lot of information is lost. This causes ignorance to spread like a plague. I work for my high school's newspaper and I recently signed up to write an article that was "pro Palestine" and showed both sides of the conflict for an opinion piece. I wrote the article but apparently having an unpopular opinion on something makes it "offensive.” Even though the article was going to be backed up by facts, evidence, and opinion of others not just my own.... it was ultimately canned and replaced by a less "controversial" topic. I feel like if the article were only "pro-Israel" it would not have been censored or cut. Journalism is about practicing "freedom of the press “no matter the public opposition; or that is what I was taught to believe.  It’s more like  “you can say whatever you want and no opinion is wrong that is until we disagree.” People are so god damn afraid of controversy these days. But reporting on topics no matter how controversial is what sparks revolutions, enlightenment, change in the world, freedom. I bet in the early 1900s journalist were told not to argue in favor of women sufferage because it was controversial or not to write about labor unions and unfair working conditions but if there were not journalists who wrote about theses things, the public would not have known about these topic and come together to fight for what they cared about. The role of the journalist is to report on topics and issues to educate the public, by educating the public and exposing people to these ideas you are allowing them to have their own opinions. This is because people can’t have opinions about things they are not exposed to or educated on. And even if the majority of the public disagree with a stance on a issue, it is the point of the editorial and opinion sections in newspapers to persuade people of and expose people to different ways of thinking by presenting facts, evidence, and reasons to back up an argument that people may have never been exposed to before and thus maybe changing their minds on an issue. I know I'm just talking about a high school newspaper but it is not fair to the real journalists and writers around the world who might not be lucky enough to have freedom of the press that we take for granted to not use it.
